Community Inmate Workforce (CIWF):
The Community Inmate Workforce Program is a large-scale volunteer work program that is designed for misdemeanant and non-violent offenders, who have no recent history of violent, sexual, or escape related offenses an opportunity to work with various agencies and develop different skillsets while incarcerated. In this program, offenders are assigned work assignments throughout the participating jurisdictions. These work assignments typically involve assisting county and city organizations with various duties such as landscaping, animal care, trash collection, and much more.
Pretrial CIWF:
Per VA Code 53.1-128, Every person 18 years of age or older who is confined pending disposition of a criminal offense not listed in § 19.2-297.1 may work in such workforce on a voluntary basis with the approval of and under the supervision of the sheriff or his designee. Eligibility into this program is more restrictive and participants must meet guidelines for CIWF with additional criteria required.
